Washington Square is a psycho-social rehabilitation program for seriously
mentally ill adults. Within the Clubhouse program, a main focus is
to prepare consumers for eventual work placement in the community. Also, members
of the clubhouse learn or improve upon important social and interpersonal skills
which will enable them to meet goals that they have set for themselves. While at Clubhouse,
consumers/members work in
various units (Kitchen, Snack Bar, Clerical, Maintenance, & Thrift Shop) in order to learn good work
habits, improve interpersonal skills, and develop increased personal responsibility.
A "work-ordered" day provides the structure within which Clubhouse
members participate. By participation in the Clubhouse program, we have found that consumers are less likely to
require more intensive services such as hospitalization or commitment.
