The Region V medical staff consists of a full-time psychiatrist, 1 consulting psychiatrist, 1 physician consultant, 2 full-time registered nurses, and 2 full-time licensed practical nurses. Medical personnel work as a part of the overall treatment team assigned to consumers in Region V. Our medication philosophy is one which places an emphasis an integrated use of psychotropics. That is, close attention is given to the combined use of medication and appropriate types of therapy, counseling, and skill development. We view medication management as a compliment to traditional therapeutic services and vice versa. 

Our psychiatrist and medical consultants are available for coverage of night and weekend emergency and crisis management. They can be called upon by the front-line emergency counselors when medication or hospitalization needs arise. Region V is one of only several Mississippi mental health regions with a full-time psychiatrist on staff.  Access to a full-time psychiatrist enables us to provide a more flexible range of options to consumers, including more timely scheduling of psychiatric consultations. In certain circumstances, our nursing staff is available to go with case-managers to a consumer's home to administer needed medications as indicated by the psychiatrist.
